Myers Wolin focuses on trademarks, patents, copyrights, licensing, contract compliance, and other intellectual property related matters, and assists clients from individual entrepreneurs to Fortune 100 companies with a full spectrum of legal services, including patent and trademark prosecution, counseling, IP due diligence, opinions, licensing and transaction, compliance matters, litigation, and commercial contracts.

The Trademark Specialist position at Myers Wolin is a professional and specialty occupation and requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Political Science, Legal Studies or a related field or its US equivalent in order to perform the intricate duties of the position.

The applicant must have experience with trademark laws and procedures worldwide, with trademark renewals, with familiarity with OHIM and the European trademark system, the Madrid system, Madrid Protocol, and the Madrid Agreement. The Trademark Specialist must possess knowledge in intellectual property and trademark functionals with keen ability to interface with multiple groups, which can only be obtained by formal, at least Bachelor-level of education, and are all critical to guide Myers Wolin with the development and implementation of a better trademark and intellectual property portfolios.

The position of Trademark Specialist requires the applicant to work with the firm’s attorneys in prosecution, enforcement, and portfolio management of trademarks both within the country and outside.

The job duties of Trademark Specialist which will include, but not be limited to:

  • Maintain global trademark portfolios for clients and ensure conformity with laws and compliance regulations in jurisdictions worldwide;
  • Coordinate, review, and prepare domestic and international trademark filings with the World Intellectual Property Organization including conducting pre-market clearance reviews and analysis.
  • Review, evaluate, and consult with attorneys including foreign counsel and government liaisons regarding requests for information drafting responses to same;
  • Gather and provide foreign associates with information/documentation necessary to prosecute/maintain trademark applications, registrations, and renewals and responding to Office Actions, including reviewing product promotional materials, labeling and brand usage and compliance with current laws and regulations.
  • Coordinate with foreign counsel on international clearance, filing, maintenance, compliance and renewal matters;
  • Prepare and file powers of attorney and correspondence of instructions;
  • Perform trademark, patent, copyright and domain name due diligence research using online and commercial databases, and preparing reports detailing results;
  • Assist counsel with draft agreements (i.e. license, co-existence, assignments, etc.);
  • Work with attorneys and clients to determine type of copyright work, correct authorship, and copyright claimant;
  • Complete electronic copyright registration forms with the U.S. Copyright Office; and
  • Examine, evaluate and investigate compliance conformity with Federal, State, and local trademark laws and regulations worldwide and update internal company standard operating guidelines and procedures related to changes in laws and regulations.
